What we are learning!
Word Work - We will be working on sentence structure. We will be cutting up sentences and putting them back together in the correct order.
Daily 5 - We are reviewing the structure of Read to Self. The students should be familiar to this from kindergarten. We are building stamina and learning 3 ways to read a book. Ask them if they remember the 3 ways. Speaking of reading, your child has a reading log in the back of their red take home folder. This is so you can chart minutes you read at home. We will set a class goal soon and try to read as a class for a certain number of minutes. You can begin jotting those minutes down. The more they read, the stronger readers they will become. You may count Raz Reader on this record.
Writer's Workshop - Our focus will be writing small moments stories. These are true stories that happened to us. You should have received homework for writing this week. Please fill out the sheets and return them to school for your child to use at writing time. These will help them with spelling as well as trigger ideas for stories to write about.
Math - We will be working on learning some new math games that will help us with addition and subtraction. We have began working on word problems. Students must know how to count and write to 120, as well as recognize numbers to 120 out of order. I have began assessing them this week. You can help by having your child practice at home.
Word wall Words (Spelling) - No words this week. They will start the 1st week in September. More information will follow.
As you may have heard, our fish have names. The students named them Goldie, Flippy and D.J. Unfortunately, I had Goldie for a while and she passed away on Monday:( Thankfully, Mr. Peterson is a great helper and replaced her this week. The students have decided she will be Goldie too!
I hope you have had time to check out Raz Reader. Several students came back to school on Friday and had done some reading the night before. This makes my hear happy:) Also, ask your child about Flashlight Friday!
