Spelling / Words of the Week
Each week your child will be given new words to learn for the week. These are words that they need to read quickly and be able to use correctly in their writing. You will get a note each week telling what these words are so you can practice them at home. Thank you for working with your child and helping them learn all our 1st grade words!
Here are some fun ways to practice your words!
Rainbow Spelling: Rainbow write your spelling words. Write each word first in pencil. Then write each word with a DIFFERENT color. (Select 3-5 colors)
Pyramid Writing: Pyramid write your spelling words. You must write neatly!

ABC Order: Write your words in ABC order!
Red Vowels/Blue Consonants: Write each of your spelling words. Write the vowels with a red crayon/marker and the consonants with a blue crayon/marker.
Squiggly Words: You are going to write them two times. Write them first in squiggly letters. Then write them once more in regular letters. Write neatly!
Three Times: Write each spelling word three times. First, write each word in pencil. Second write each word in crayon. Third, write each word in marker. You MUST write neatly!
Fancy Letters: Write each of your spelling words using fancy letters. Your letters can have curly-q’s or dots, for example. Have fun!
Upper and Lower: First write your spelling word normal. Then rewrite your spelling word. This time write the vowels in lowercase and the consonants in uppercase. *Example- lower LoWeR
