What we are learning:

Math: Students are learning to add double digit numbers and are learning place value. They are learning to take away 10 and add 10.  We have also been working on our timed subtraction facts.

Reading: The students began their brown bag book club this week.  Mrs. Presley read Blueberries for Sal.
Throughout the week they will be looking closer at the text to thinking about the characters feeling, the setting, and the problem and solution of the story.  Each day they are adding elements to their bags.  On Friday, we will have our book discussion.  They will partner up with students in the classroom to share all they learned about the book this week.  We will also share a little snack as we have our discussion.  They love this process and this is a great opportunity for them to learn to look closer at a text.

Writing: Our class has started a new unit in writing this week.  We are going to be creating characters and sending them on adventures.  During the unit we will be stretching our students to begin to bring those characters to life in other books.  They will be creating a series of books similar to The Magic Tree House, Junie B. Jones or Arthur books.

Theme: We started a unit on plants.  The students will be planting their own sunflower plant this week and then writing in a journal as it grows.  We want them to become little scientists and make observations about their seeds.
